About National Education Society

The National Education Society of Karnataka, Basavanagudi, Bengaluru is established in the year 1917 with the aim of inculcating the Nationalistic ideals. The society started the first school in the name of “National High School” in 1917 in a rented building near Tharagupet in Bangalore (and shifted to Basavanagudi in the following year) by Annie Besant. The Society adopted the motto “Shraddha hi Parama Gathihi” and the emblem ‘Vedagni’ placed in an ornamental urn. Today, National Education Society of Karnataka is running about 21 education institutions and 3 techno-cultural forums. Besides its’ stress on academic excellence, the college with its consistent encouragement to extra-curricular activities has produced eminent Theatre and Cine Artists, Sports personalities of National and International reputation. The college, which has been hallowed by the visits of great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, endeavours relentlessly to promote the ideals of secularism humanism and scientific spirit enshrined in the Constitution of India.

About Dr. H Narasimhaiah

Padmabhusan Dr. H. Narasimhaiah received his high school education from National High School at Basavanagudi in 1935, B. Sc. (Honors) and Master’s degree in Physics with first class from Central College of Bangalore in 1946. Interacted with Mahatma Gandhi during his visit to Bengaluru in 1936 and adopted Gandhi’s Principles in life. He obtained a Ph.D degree in Nuclear physics from Ohio State University in 1960. He was the Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University between 1973 to 1977. Padmabhusan Dr. H. Narasimhaiah published a collection of essays entitled “Tereda Mana” (ತೆರೆದ ಮನ i.e., Open Mind) and an auto-biography named “Horaatada Haadi” (ಹೋರಾಟದ ಹಾದಿ i.e., The Path of Struggle) which were awarded Sahitya Academy Book prize. “Do not accept anything without questioning” was his motto in life. He was the President of National Education Society of Karnataka from 1977 to 2005. He received the Tamrapatra award for his participation in the Indian Freedom Struggle.
